Our age is simulation. It builds on the protocols of the fathers. It modifies codes, programs, and interfaces. Generations before beheld the Other face to face; we, through their surveillance monitors. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the network? Why should we not have a stream and dialogue of insight and not of tradition, and a religion by revelation to us, and not the remix of theirs? As we are carried for a time in this sensual presence, whose floods of life stream around and through us, and invite us by the energy they supply, to action, why should we search among the overwritten drives of the past or put the living generation into a simulation of its simulations? The sun shines to day also. There are new nodes, new humans, new thoughts. Let us demand our own networks and paths and protocols.

audio / video work

material limitations aside, neoscenes works in a variety of sonic and moving
visual mediums since first picking up a Bolex 16mm camera in the 70's. after
some inspiring studies with experimental film-maker, Stan Brakhage, and video
artist Janice Tanaka, whenever moving image equipment is available, neoscenes makes good
use of it. the latest work takes the form of more complex live and live-streamed improv re-mixes
from the sizeable neoscenes archive of audio and video material. samples of those
streams are found under the specific project pages which are still under construction...

a special live/streamed event, radio aporee presents flickering wastelands III in its long-standing open-house tradition. good foods, good sounds, good people. part of the 48-Stunden-(Berlin-)Neukölln Kunst und Kulturfestival. neoscenes, fresh back from many weeks on the road in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona will take you, with hydrocarbons flaring, on a drifting trajectory through spaces that dwell restlessly between ears and leave traces of soot, soil, and water. Udo Noll, the impelling force behind aporee maps invites me to participate. no hesitation. it's a realization of a long-running idea of his to place sounds and to be able to receive those placed sounds. a convergence of his prodigeous programming skills, his imagination, available technologies, and some enthusiastic participants makes this an exemplary project that is still actively developing new aspects. do a search on neoscenes, and stay tuned!

one component of the massive neoscenes travelog/blog is a collection of ambient remixes of the various sonic stimulations based on local listening positions that are ever-changing in movement. in 2008 I shifted this work to aporee maps

blossoming out of the soundtransit project which is governed by a Creative Commons Attribution license, Nick Mariette made a custom remix from the archive for broadcast on FBI 94.5 FM in Sydney. a neoscenes sample starts things off, and there are several other neoscene samples mixed into the 40 minute broadcast made on 23 April 2006. nice! a meat-space visit to Baltimore and the home of long-time net-worker and friend Steve Bradley of art@radio, after a 6-year hiatus, called for something to happen. jet-lag was kept at bay by lively conversation, and in the upstairs studio, we performed a special edition live sonic improv, "forces in equilibrium," for art@radio -- streaming out into the ether network. miga invites me to participate as speaker and performer at the migrating realities event 04-05 April 2008 here in Berlin. a rare live visual-sonic performance will be sandwiched between an unrelated remote presentation at another conference in the US and a short presentation here on the History of Glass and Virtual Reality. (simulation of live performance -- it's a simulation in that I can't record the full audio output and the video together when working live, but you'll get the idea!)
