i say:
they sat in a room in a mud house dried by southern suns or so they thought. but it was one of those rooms where vision was restricted, atrophied, and even the heat of mingled breath close to the face was not possible. she said that she couldn't see much down the road. instead of listening, he looked down upon his Self from above, like the moon, somewhere else in the room, it was evening, and the Blood of Christ mountains moved under the fixed stars. she was there, he was somewhere else, or at least that what it seemed. to a third person, though there wasn't an Other in the room, it seemed that they were both there. or maybe all three were alone, in separate rooms. wondering which door to open, hoping that they would find the Other. it was all too much. sensual presence limited to a 60 cycle drone in the ear. so he slept near the sea. sleeping was easier. his soul could drift. seaweed, underwater, storm breakers, a flush of bubbles, millions of small silver worlds. eyes closed. and still they saw. they saw the conditions of all things around and the entire rushing froth of the universe.

tech-no-mad rising

Wed 31.Dec.2003
Prescott, Arizona

finally positive and official confirmation on the artist-residency award in Helsinki. March through May or so, artist-in-residence at the Sibelius Academy's Center for Music and Technology. with a nice flat on Suomenlinna, a stipend, and no real teaching contingencies. the first time in a decade I have had time to work without the pressure of teaching and/or movement hanging over my head. some teaching before and after in Germany and probably trips to other places here and there in between -- Riga, Tallinn, Venice, Amsterdam, K?ln. open-ended. Europe as destination, home? but with the welcoming spirit shown, it is something of a homecoming. that old dilemma of a spiritual home in certain landscapes of the West, and an intellectual/social creative home in the urban energies of pan-Europe. after the last two years of geopolitical developments across the Atlantic, I understand that things will be different now. and the time of returning to the US may be further off than I can imagine.

facing the tech-no-mad inside. the usual stresses surface. destination instabilities, fiscal indeterminacy, psychosocial unknowns. people to see, two years on, at least, the amount of time I have been in the US without leaving at all. but the forward look that travel requires begins to liven my mind again. stories to share about the lapsed time of distant absence.

ethernet dissipation

Tue 16.Dec.2003
Boulder, Colorado

on the verge of re-starting the movement that birthed this travelog. a return to tech-no-mad. all the fears and terrors slip into ethernets, expressed and concentrically radiating. telling them to dissipate. flagrant connections. drifting through. keeping to (forgotten about) the center comatose.

and then those comings and goings. or what. plans to jaunt, plans to visit people. well, that kind of travel seems not to have the time in the next year. the year fills up with actions and activities already framed by time and place.

they say:
The ignorant are tied to their native land, the mediocre consider themselves citizens of the world, but only the wise realise that they are a stranger everywhere.
